Chapter One

Matthew Joseph Casha is a multidisciplinary artist and architect whose practice spans visual art, abstract art, site-specific installation and architectural spatial design. Working across art, architecture and digital fabrication, his work explores memory, temporality, decay, reassembly and the relationship between human experience and form. He served as architect for the Malta Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale 2019 and Creative Lead for the Maltese Pavilion at the London Design Biennale 2023. In 2023, he received the Premju ghall-Arti for Best International Achievement.

Naomi Smith is a Maltese multidisciplinary artist born in 2004. Her practice moves across photography, painting and video. Her work explores memory, society and the human condition through themes of transparency, materiality and fragility. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art (Hons). Recent exhibitions include Summer Lovin, 2024 at ChristineXGallery, and Migration Nation, 2024 at Spazju Kreattiv.

Marina is an Estonian-born multidisciplinary artist currently based in Malta. Self-taught, her practice moves across painting, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture and experimental forms, allowing each medium to become a different way of exploring perception and emotion. Her work explores inner landscapes, ethereal spaces and the relationship between the tangible and the imagined. Inspired by atmosphere, nature and the sensory qualities of the Maltese landscape, Marina is drawn to softness, movement, texture and transformation, creating works that invite moments of contemplation and escape. Rather than being defined by a single medium, her practice is an ongoing exploration of how materials, forms and visual environments can evoke an emotional experience. Marina has exhibited her work at the art space Splendid, Buhler art gallery, and collaborated with Dini Fino Furniture Store. Her practice continues to evolve through experimentation with painting, sculptural forms and mixed media.
