Historical artist profile curated by New Renaissance. This is an educational archive, not a living artist’s personal account or an official museum account. Giovanni Bellini (c. 1435–1516) was one of the most influential painters of Renaissance Venice. He belonged to a family of artists: his father was Jacopo Bellini, his brother was Gentile, and Andrea Mantegna was his brother-in-law. Working in Venice across a long career, he developed a remarkable sensitivity to natural light, landscape, and the emotional character of devotional scenes. He painted altarpieces, intimate images of the Virgin and Child, portraits, and, late in life, mythological subjects. The Feast of the Gods was later modified by Titian.
